The Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad is business school located in the capital city of state Gujarat. The institution is a leading business school in the Asian-Pacific region. IIM Ahmedabad was the second IIM to be set up in the country after IIM Calcutta. This institution got established on 11 December 1961. The physicist Vikram Sarabhai and businessman Kasturbhai Lalbhai played major roles in setting up of the Institute. IIM-A is ranked 2nd among Top 50 Management Institutes for Research and Teaching in India by National Institutional Ranking Framework (MHRD) in 2016. The selection in the IIM’s is based on a Common Aptitude Test (CAT).


IIM Ahmedabad offers diplomas in management and also postgraduate full time programmes in the following:

  • Post-Graduate Programme in Management (PGP) – Two-year, full-time MBA programme.
  • Post Graduate Programme in Food and Agribusiness Management (PGP-FABM) – Two-year, full-time MBA programme.
  • One Year Post-Graduate Programme in Management for Executives (PGPX) – One Year full-time MBA programme.

The academics here are designed to promote research, entrepreneurship and innovation among students.  A number of seminars, conferences and guest lectures by eminent personalities are organized for an overall development of students.

In the past few years the students from IIMA have been placed in Indian educational institutions such as IIMs and other leading management institutes and universities around the world as faculty members. The students are also placed in reputed companies which are domestic and foreign multinational companies and donor agencies, such as ICICI, TCS, AT Kearney, Infosys, GTZ, PricewaterhouseCoopers, etc., for consulting and management positions.

Life at IIT-A

IIM Ahmedabad offers an amazing campus life with homely hostels to stay in. The workload can be sometimes more but weekends are a great joyful time. Days can be hectic and stressful but it’s how you make the most of it and grab the maximum of the opportunities as this campus has a lot to offer for those who wish to learn. The student community is very supportive and really close knit. The first year seems to be quite hectic to a lot of students but the things get sorted and more relaxed as you move on to the next year. The students enter after mind numbing toil of giving the CAT examination that is common aptitude test and the IIMA offers the opportunities which are really worth it. There are works perks of getting into an institution of this standard.
